The Library Bar with Snug & Function Room
The Library Bar is located within Glyde House and is full of charm & character with a quiet ‘Snug’ lounge for chilling out and a larger Function Room for private & public events. We are only open for events so please see our What’s On page for a full listing, including lots of regular live music gigs.
Oak panelled, with shelves stacked with books, we have a pleasant environment and have free wifi too. So grab yourself a coffee, cake, real ale or glass of wine and relax with us in whichever space suits you best. You can also sit outside on picnic benches to enjoy the busy city centre views of City Park.
We serve lots of local & internationally branded beers and our glass-fronted ‘Beer Cupboard’ (cellar) in The Snug stocks many more local craft & real ales.
We host lots of private parties too so please scroll down for details or see our What’s On page for events that are open to the public.
Private Party Bookings!
You can hire our rooms for private parties, functions and wedding receptions, etc and have a 4am license. We also have disco & other lights installed into the ceiling of our function room, all ready to go!
You really need to call by and walk the space for yourself to properly assess us for your event, but to give you an idea of costs:
- The Function Room costs £25 + vat per hour during the day or £100 + vat for an evening.
- The Meeting Room costs £15 + vat per hour.
- The Snug Lounge costs £15 per hour.
Once hired, they will be your space(s) and the public will not be permitted to use them. However, if you don’t want to hire them, your guests can naturally drift into these spaces (if they are not already hired out to somebody else) and mingle with members of the public anyway. It works fine, but it’s really up to you.
We generate additional income from food and drink sales, so if you require the whole of the ground floor and want our bar closed to the public the costs are:
- With a private bar for over 100 guests, the ground floor hire cost is £500 + vat.
- With a very small number or guests or no bar, the ground floor hire cost is £1000 + vat.
